Votronic solar controllers of the series "MPP" (Maximum-Power-Point) with "IU1oU2" charging characteristic are connected as a link between solar panel(s) and battery(ies). With MPP technology, the controller continuously and automatically determines the maximum power point (MPP) of the solar panels several times per second. It then transforms the excess voltage of the solar module to a higher charging current for the battery (realized by high frequency switching controller technology with high efficiency). This charging current gain ensures shorter charging times and the best possible power utilization of the solar system. The MPP solar controllers are fully automatic, maintenance free and offer the following functions: MPP charge current increase compared to conventional controllers by 10% to 30% (efficiency > 95%) due to the use of the latest controller technology (microprocessor). The increase in performance is particularly noticeable during the cooler seasons and, for example, during periods of high snow, low and diffuse lighting (hibernation). The Battery Life algorithm monitors the battery's state of charge and, if necessary, raises the load disconnect threshold day by day (i.e., disconnects the load earlier) until the energy gained is sufficient to charge the battery to near 100%. From this point on, the threshold for disconnecting the load is modulated so that charging to nearly 100% is achieved about once a week.
